THE BENEFITS OF 'HIIT' - HIGH INTENSITY INTERVAL TRAINING
1. IT'S EFFICIENT - if you're short on time; a quick HIIT workout is all you need! Ranging from 10 - 30 minutes in duration HIIT focuses on short periods of high-intensity intervals of vigorous exercise that make your heart rate speed up and can produce health benefits similar to twice as much moderate-intensity exercise.
2. CAN BE DONE ANYWHERE WITH LITTLE TO NO EQUIPMENT - think bodyweight squats, lunges, bear crawls, BURPEES, shuttle runs, skipping etc. Just grab your gorgeous body and away you go!! click here for a sample HIIT workout from Healthy Social 3. GREAT FOR CALORIE BURNING – strength training as we discussed last week should be performed slower with focus on correct technique with additional rest periods. This makes the calorie burn during a strength session relatively low. HIIT however, with the significant increase in heart rate and shorter rest periods is a sure fire way to burn some additional calories or the same calories in a shorter amount of time. 4. LUNG CAPACITY - a really good indicator of good health is your VO2 max the measured maximum volume of oxygen the body can use. The more aerobically fit you are, the better your heart can pump blood, the longer it takes you to get out of breath, and the further and faster you’re able to bike, run, swim etc. 5. HEART HEALTH - HIIT increases pressure demand on your blood vessels and challenges their elasticity, giving your heart a great workout too. That in turn can help prevent heart disease.
It's a common misconception that you have to do cardio / HIIT in order to burn fat. THIS IS FALSE! Yes you will burn more calories during a HIIT workout but it is in fact a balanced mixture of strength, intensity & good nutrition that will result in fat loss.
This why the sessions at HEALTHY SOCIAL are designed the way they are.
